Q1. What do enjoy about working with textiles?
A1. I enjoy working with materials which have a three dimensionality. The surface quality of the material is also very important to me as I want people to be stimulated both visual and by the textural quality of my work.
Q2. Who are your influences?
A2. I try to see positives in the work of all creatives and I seek not to dismiss any possible influence from which I could draw some gain. Designers I especially admire include Mary White, Grayson Perry and Zandra Rhodes.
Q3. What themes do you look to in your work?
A3. Currently I have been very interested in the use of geometric and linear shapes which is demonstrated in my 2nd year work.
Q4. What are your professional ambitions?
A4. I am focused on achieving a successful career in the textiles industry contributing as much as possible to the production of high calibre designs which prove themselves commercially and with the test of time.
Q5. What do you enjoy about your course of study at the University of Huddersfield?
A5. The BA Textiles Design course at the University of Huddersfield allows you the opportunity to develop your work in whatever direction you choose be that weave, print or in my case embroidery. The facilities within the faculty of laser cutters, sewing machines, looms etc. are all first class and together with the outstanding support and direction provided by the lecturers all the ingredients for success are there. It is simply down to me as student to apply myself.
